A New Birth Space in RVA.

Early in 2018, Linsey, Adrianna and Marinda sat outside on a garden bench, imagining their perfect birth center. It would be small and home-like, located near the city of Richmond in a walkable neighborhood, but with plenty of parking. There would be a yard big enough for strolls and an herb garden. We wanted the birth center to be close to our favorite hospitals and medical practices, and close to EMS. A few months later, Adrianna noticed that a space she had been eyeing for years was available. Incredibly, this space fit every criteria we had for a small birth center, and more!

Our vision for this birth center is to create a space that is clean, beautiful, simple and fun. We have renovated this 1930’s home with an eye toward simplicity and preservation. The birth rooms, especially, are simple, restful spaces, with luxurious details and medical equipment stored a few steps away in easily accessible closets. We are moments away from I-95 in the heart of Lakeside. We are across the street from the Lakeside Farmer’s Market and a few doors down from EMS. The birth center is on nearly an acre, where there is plenty of space to wander in labor or sit and chat with a friend after a class.

The finishing touches on The Nest birth Suite will be done in November of 2018. In 2019 we will open our second birth suite, The Cottage. The Nest is the entire second floor of the main building. There is a private entrance so if you are come in in labor during a clinic day or a class, you will have complete privacy. There is a full kitchen, full bath, a room devoted entirely to the birth pool and birth swing, adjacent to the bedroom. (if you are wondering, “what if there are two or three or four births at once?” click here.)

No matter the birth location, our model of care and our values are the same. Simplicity, safety, inclusivity. Individualized, evidence informed care is the foundation of River City Midwifery. Contact us to ask questions and take a tour.
